5 Truly Inspired English Anime Dubs

There’s no question that there are some god-awful English anime dubs out there. It’s probably a fair assumption that most English-speaking anime fans have had their ears bleed at some point or other – the 90s and early 2000s in particular had a slew of especially bad dubs, from the oft-mentioned Sailor Moon and Cardcaptors to pretty much anything ever produced by 4Kids Entertainment. Anime Taste Testing: Summer 2014 (Part II)

Welp, already around the halfway point for most of these titles? Time really flies when you’re having fun following way too many shows for comfort. Nonetheless, I’m pretty satisfied with the line-up I now have – and if I’m still slightly unsure about a couple of them, the fact that all but two of these anime are set to be 12 episodes or less makes things a lot easier to juggle. (For people reading this who don’t know which anime I picked up to begin with, you can check out part one of this post here.) Continue reading “Anime Taste Testing: Summer 2014 (Part II)”

Anime Taste Testing: Summer 2014

Ladies and gentlemen, summer is officially upon us. RUN, DON’T WALK. (Actually, you should probably walk because it’s really damn hot out there.) But the point is, summer has finally made it and apart from the arrival of all the fun things about the season you all know and love, like gross insects and back sweat, there’s also a whooole lot of new anime I’ve got on my to-watch list. Significantly more than in any other season to date, in fact – in part because there are so many sequels/remakes that I’m actually watching for a change, and in part because there’s a far larger spread of female-targeted titles than normal. Nope, this isn’t just a 3-month late post. I have a couple of reasons for doing this now as opposed to having done it back at the end of last year, and for once, procrastination isn’t one of them. Continue reading “AAA2013: The Artemis Anime Awards”

Anime Taste Testing: Winter 2013/14 (Part II)

40. picture1I stand by what I said in my first part of this post a few weeks ago – it’s hardly the best season of the anime year, but it’s a very consistent one. I think I actually prefer this to seasons that do contain that groundbreaking title but which have me dropping over half the shows I originally sample. To me, it makes for a more satisfying viewing experience overall. Continue reading “Anime Taste Testing: Winter 2013/14 (Part II)”

Anime Taste Testing: Winter 2013/14

You know, I really didn’t anticipate such a solid winter line-up. Based purely on the first versions of the charts that came out, I imagined something of a snooze-fest – and to be honest, I don’t think we have any truly ground-breaking shows here. However, there are also very few shows that I’m dropping. Normally I pick 10 or so titles and end up either disliking or losing interest in at least half of them, whereas this time around I picked fewer titles but am happy with nearly all of them so far. Perhaps it’s not a season of standouts so much as it is a season of surprising consistency. Continue reading “Anime Taste Testing: Winter 2013/14”
