One of the reasons I love anime so much is the sheer variety. Whether I’m in the mood for an epic fantasy, a dramatic space opera, or a just a good ol’ romantic comedy, I can usually find something I like. Sometimes though, when I come home from a too-long day at work or need to chill because I’m stressed or upset, I’m after nothing more than calm and soothing – something to convince me, at least for a little while, that the world is actually a nice place where things inevitably work out for the best. 5 Anime Kids I Don’t Want to Murder
By and large, young kids in anime annoy the hell out of me. Dealing with children in the real world? No problem, bring it on. But seeing small children in anime? Ugh, no thank you. I’m not talking about anime targeted towards the same age group, mind you – I have no issue with kids in titles like Doraemon, Youkai Watch, or Hamtaro. What I typically have a dislike for, however, are elementary school-aged characters in anime targeted at a wider audience… mostly because they act and sound nothing at all like their age. Unsung Heroes: Great Parental Figures in Anime
It’s perhaps stating the obvious, but anime parents don’t typically get much in the way of positive screen-time. Mostly they’re just sort of there in the background, or in some cases are absent altogether – either because our main character has been tragically orphaned at a young age, or else because they’re apparently just that unimportant to the story. Other parents have more of a presence but are abusive, mentally unstable, or at the very least serious assholes – your Kiryuin Ragyos, Shou Tuckers, and Ikari Gendos of the anime universe. Review: Usagi Drop
You know, I can usually find at least one thing to criticize about anything I watch. No matter how much I like the story, no matter how high the production qualities are, there are always one or two issues, however niggly, that I can address in a review. In all honesty though, there was not a moment of Usagi Drop that I didn’t find absolutely, unquestionably, one hundred percent adorable. (Which isn’t to say that Usagi Drop is ‘objectively perfect’ in every way – just that I personally found it to be as flawless as it’s possible for an anime to be.)
